Whatcha Lookin For

It's the Million Little Things, EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Like the microwave; every time our microwave is used it makes a horrible shaking sound.
It's just one of the many little irritants that are just there.
You know, to irritate me everyday just for the fun of it.
Like my life is a huge comic relief for somebody, just not me.
Or the washing machine which has worked awesome, but has recently (7-8 months now) lost the capability to stop filling with water.
So the irritant involves having to turn the water on EVERY TIME I have to do the laundry; and then I get the added "bonus" of having to wait for about 5 min. for my super capacity washer to fill up, so I can then turn it off.
While I stand there for what seems like FOREVER, I just can't bring myself to buy a new one when all I have to do is stand here.
This is my life.
I love my life.
But, some days it just; is. a lot.
I'm sure you can relate, in some way or another.
We do our best day in and day out. It's hard sometimes.
When you have kids who just don't understand to any capacity what it means to be an adult. Yet, they want to stick in their opinions about; pretty much EVERYTHING.
So I'm sitting here taking a few moments by myself.
I'm listening to the birds chirping happily outside my window, and my goat yelling impatiently to be moved.
Here's a video of my drive home from the greenhouse to get mums and pumpkins with my daughter, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Fall is Approaching, I Think???

So, as I sit here listening to the sounds of cicadas. My mind drifts back to the summer vacation. How it was a bittersweet one; being the reasoning was my father in law has pancreatic cancer. It's really hard to get past that when your there knowing this may be the last time you see this person.

I think of the day we spent on the beach, how relaxing it was to just lie in the sun and let it penetrate every muscle, like OMG!
It made me realize I could live here!

We were at the Jersey Shore in Seaside Heights.
We (the fam of 7,) flew into Newark, NJ. after about a 2 3/4 hr. flight.

Now, being on the other side of that whole experience; it's kind of surreal.

My kiddos are back in school as of Aug. 8th, minus my 9 yr. old (autistic) son.

The weather is hot (mid 90's,) like even summer doesn't want to let go yet.

With the kids in school, this frees up time for me to continue following some of my interests; like photography, I'm entering my first art contest, and am really excited.

I'm also pursuing a couple areas of advocacy that I have an interest in.

The other thing going on would be FOOTBALL! Who else is SO excited to have football back?! I know I am, go Eagles!

I hope everybody has an awesome week!

How to Save, Save Time and Money Talking to Utility Companies

save time talking to utility companies

Another bill in the mail that is not correct. What's even worse is now I have to call, and argue with another customer service agent AGAIN!

This had become a monthly ordeal, and I finally had enough!
Here's some ways I've learned how to save; save time and money when talking to utility companies.

We're all crazy busy, and don't have time to argue for 45 - 60 minutes every month. Just to get the savings we're supposed to be already getting.
The worse utility companies are cable, satellite dish, and cell/home phone companies.

chat with bill companiesI am here to help save you, your time and your money.

The first thing I recommend, is do an online chat instead of calling.
There's two reasons for this; one, you'll have a transcript of your encounter as proof of any discrepancies for future bills.
I've found one of the most common responses from a company when pleading your case is, "That's not correct," even if you were told you were going to get a specific promotion.

So when you do an online chat, you then have proof.

Once you are in a chat, look for an envelope and click on it. This is how you'll get your chat transcript emailed to you once you're done.
This is a huge way to save you time and money.

Some companies like to play "hide and seek" with their chat option.
If you can't find an icon, go to the bottom of the website.
Look for a "contact us" link; or it can be under" help" as well.

The second thing to do is remember you are the consumer; they NEED you.
One of the quickest ways to save money, and get promotions (for money off) is to tell them you'll go to another company.

I tell sales representative,"I can't afford to pay (x amount of dollars) I really like my service, but can't afford it, is there any way you can help me out?"

Suddenly, like "magic" nine times out of ten, they will talk with a supervisor, and get you a discount.
Because these companies don't want you to go somewhere else.

Remember, there's always a manager or supervisor you can ask to talk to.
If the company is really digging their heels in, and you're not getting the response you are looking for, ask for the manager/supervisor.

I hope you've found some ways to save some time and money.

How to Unclog a Bathroom Sink Drain

Every 4-5 months our bathroom sink drain gets clogged.
Considering I have 3 daughters, as well as myself, who all have long hair, as well as a teenage son with thick curly hair; I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
It seems no matter how many times I tell my "wonderful" children to, "Not cut their hair over the sink (and not pick it up,) or if there is hair in the sink, "Take it out of the sink and throw it in the trash.
So I end up with a sink with water that won't drain.

My non-draining sink.
After wasting a lot of money on drain cleaners that claimed to unclog bathroom sink drain from standing water, I took the hands on approach to unstop my bathroom sink drain.

This is underneath my bathroom sink cabinet. This time around I get the added "bonus" of mold, ugh.

The first step on how to unclog a bathroom sink drain is to put on gloves.
Because that gunk that is going to come out is really gross.
Now, turn off the water under the sink.
There will be two medal knobs, turn both of them clockwise until they won't turn anymore.
You will also need an old container of some sort, one that you'll be throwing away.
I used an old creamer container that I had (re-purposing. :)

Next up, twist counterclockwise until the white (screw) part separates from the other piping. As seen above.
Do the same thing with the one in the back, until it releases the pipe.
Be careful here, you want to make sure to use your free hand (not turning) to hold the pipe so that it doesn't fall.
Now slowly take the pipe, and dump the contents into your container; then put the container under your pipe (as seen in the picture below.)

This may unclog your bathroom sink drain.
Unfortunately for me, it did not.

Next, turn the small pipe counterclockwise until it comes off of the other pipe.

I had to get a large wrench to loosen up the metal part at the top of the sink (see pic below.)

Once I loosened it enough to be able to turn the pipe around towards me; I was able to remove the metal bar with the ball attached. (See pic below)

This "ball" can collect a lot of hair, and a lot of times after you remove it, you'll have unclogged your bathroom sink drain.

For me, it didn't unclog my drain; it did release some trapped water into my container.
What I did at this point was to completely remove the metal bar, and pushed it through the drain hole in my sink.

Finally, I figured out how to unclog my bathroom sink drains! As you can see the "lovely" culprit in my container, lots of hair!

Now, you're just going to put everything back on the same way you took it off.

Start by putting the "ball" back into the hole, and then turn clockwise until it is tightened.

Make sure not to over tighten because it'll be hard to get it off next time.
(Believe me, I know ;)

Take your pipe and put it back into the pipe sticking out of your wall, and tighten the white moving part until it's snug. (remember, not too tight)

Finally, slide the top pipe into the large pipe, and tighten it down.

So there you have it; The best way to unclog bathroom sink drains. (in my opinion of course. :)
This is also one of the best green ways to unclog you drains; no harsh chemicals, safe because you're not toting pans of hot boiling water to your bathroom sink.
I hope I helped you figure out the dilemma of how to unstop your bathroom sink drain for good!
